8 Weeks Out: Planning & Purging
- Start decluttering room by room. Donate, sell, or discard items you no longer need.
- Research and interview local moving companies.
- Request in-home or virtual estimates to get accurate pricing.
- Create a moving binder to keep track of quotes, receipts, and inventory.
6 Weeks Out: Booking & Supplies
- Book your movers. If you have high-value items, ensure you book a luxury moving service.
- Order packing supplies if you are packing yourself, or schedule professional packing services.
- Notify your landlord if you rent, or finalize closing details if you own.
4 Weeks Out: The Packing Begins
- Begin packing non-essential items (out-of-season clothing, books, decor).
- Label all boxes clearly with their contents and destination room.
2 Weeks Out: Logistics & Utilities
- Submit a change of address to the USPS.
- Transfer utilities (Eversource, Liberty Utilities, Comcast, etc.) to your new address.
