What happens on piano moving day

Before the crew arrives

  • In winter, salt or clear the walkway and driveway on both ends so the crew has solid footing

During the move

  • Uprights: keyboard lid secured, case wrapped in moving blankets and stretch wrap, strapped to a piano dolly, and moved by two to three movers
  • Grands: lid locked, lyre and pedals removed, the bass-side leg removed and the piano tipped onto a padded skid board, remaining legs removed, then everything wrapped and strapped
  • Stairs and thresholds get ramps or a stair crew; door frames and railings get padding
  • In the truck the piano rides strapped against the wall, never under or against other furniture

After delivery

  • Grands are reassembled, legs and lyre reattached, and the piano is leveled and placed
